SWTOR Tip of the Day: Enable Movable Secondary Windows

In addition to the new UI customizer, update 1.2 brought along a couple other display options that are now available.  One of the most welcome additions is the “movable secondary windows” option.  With this option enabled, you can have multiple windows open at the same time, such as a GTN window, your inventory, and your crew skills window!

Without this option enabled, you can only have one window open at a time.  So for example, if you had the GTN window open and you opened your inventory window, the GTN window would close.  To enable movable secondary windows, open your UI customization window and look for the option.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Enable the Companion Comparative Tooltip

I have a confession to make….I just found out about the Companion Comparative Tooltip.

Ever since beta, I’ve been looking for a way to easily compare the stats of a piece of gear against what my companion currently has equipped.  Enabling the companion comparative tooltip will do this for you.

It is a checkbox that can be found under Game menu -> Preferences -> User Interface -> Tooltips.

With this checkbox enabled, when you mouseover a piece of gear, it will show the differences in the stats compared to the currently equipped items slot for both you as well as your companion.  What a huge time saver!

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Reload the UI

Having UI issues?  No need to try to enter a new zone or log out of the game.  Press CTRL + U twice to reset the User Interface to see if that clears things up.  If you are still having UI or any other weird problem, try logging out and then back in again.

Bonus Tip:  Press CTRL + Z to hide the UI altogether for taking screenshots, especially if you are looking to use the screenshot as a custom avatar or other piece of artwork where the UI would look a little ugly.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Change Your Mouse Rotation Speed

One of the first things that threw me off in SWTOR was how quickly the camera rotated when I moved the mouse.  The last game I played before SWTOR was Lord of the Rings Online, which had a MUCH slower camera (mouse) rotation speed.

If you don’t like how fast the camera rotates when you move the mouse, you can change the speed by going to Preferences > Controls and looking for the Camera section.  There is a slider for Camera Rotation Speed.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Add Extra Action Bars

Are you running out of room on your bottom action bar with all of your abilities, med packs, stims, and vehicles?  You can add an action bar both on the right and left hand side of the screen.  Just go to Preferences > UI and look for the option to add a Left and a Right Action or QuickBar.

Currently, I am only playing with the left action bar enabled (in addition to the bottom one).  I tried the right one, but it tended to block the active quests in my quest log that were displaying on screen.  On this left action bar, I like to put my buffs, mounts, stances, and Fleet Pass:  essentially anything that I don’t need to click on in a hurry.  I keep all of my action abilities and a few med packs on the bottom.

One day I’ll get with the times and assign hot key bindings to all of these things, but right now, I like to go “Pew…Pew….Pew” with my mouse.

Bonus Tip:  Make sure that you increase the bottom action bar to two rows.  This essentially gives you a “bonus” action bar.  So with these two along with the left and right optional ones, you can have a total of four action bars.
