SWTOR Tip of the Day: Look at the Sliced Tech Parts on the GTN

I’ve been noticing on my GTN that several players have been selling stacks of sliced tech parts for below their intrinsic value.  That means that you can buy them off of the GTN and sell them to an NPC vendor for a profit.

It doesn’t always happen, but it is worth checking out.  With a low player base, it looks like some people are just trying to sell anything they can on the GTN and aren’t paying attention to their pricing.

Little Things to do Once You Hit Level 50

Over the weekend, I hit 50 on my second character, a Sith Assassin.  While looking over a few of the many guides out there for “Things to do Once You Reach Level 50,” I noticed there were a few small things missing.  Since I just dinged a fresh level 50, it gave me a chance to check these things off of my list:

  • Craft/Purchase an Augmented Orange Weapon.  Artificers can craft a customized orange lightsaber with an augment slot that is usable by level 50 characters.  Having one of these at your side along with a level 49 augment would be a wise investment.
  • Purchase your 110% Speeder.  Yeah!  You can now zoom through the galaxy at 120% speed!  Hit up the speeder vendor or the GTN and find a speeder to your liking.
  • Buy your Level 50 Schematics.  Each crafting crew skill has schematics for level 50 items.  Visit your trainer to learn the schematics that would greatly benefit your character.
  • But Your Recruit Gear.  If you are going to PvP at level 50, you must wear gear with the Expertise stat if you are going to survive.  Visit the PvP Recruit Armor vendor to buy your initial set of PvP gear.
  • Finish Your Class Quest.  This is one of the most compelling features of SWTOR:  the class quest.  Don’t you want to see how your story ends?  Get your freshly geared 50 self to Corellia and get it done!
  • Finish Your Dark/Light Alignment.  If you hit 50 and haven’t hit Level V of your alignment of choice, you can go back to other planets to find quests that give an alignment choice at completion.  You can also run low level Flashpoints in Normal Mode for the alignment choices.

The Top Five Auction House Items

Here is a good little post at SWTOR Hub which details the five best selling items on the GTN.  Hey, even if your server is a ghost town, if you are a crafter that can make any of these items, they may actually sell and earn you some extra credits.

Guild Event: Have an Amazing Race

If having a game of Hide and Seek isn’t your cup of tea, you could have an Amazing Race instead.  Here are a few ideas:

  • Start off by giving your guild mates a clue as to the whereabouts of the next clue.  A second guild mate will then be in that location to give the next clue.  Keep following this pattern until the race ends.
  • You can incorporate items into the race.  For example, turning in x number of pieces of junk loot or trade a certain number of companion gifts before they are given the next clue.
  • Players must win a duel against the clue giver in order to progress.
  • As with the Hide and Seek game, give credits/desirable items as prizes.

Guild Event Idea: Hide and Seek

Looking for an activity to liven up your next guild meeting?  Play a good old fashioned game of hide and seek.  This is a great event that characters of all level can enjoy.  We are all familiar with the rules of Hide and Seek, but here are some ideas to adapt the game for SWTOR:

  • A guild member hides on a planet.  They are available to send/answer clues as to their whereabouts.  This can be particularly frustrating fun for other players if the person hiding is in stealth mode.
  • Offer a prize to the winner.  What good is a contest if there is no prize?  Offer something good.  Some high level gear perhaps?  What about a vanity color crystal?  Credits wouldn’t hurt either as everyone could use some cold, hard, creds.
  • For an added element of fun, you could have multiple guild mates hiding on multiple planets.  You could even have them move around on the planet to different locations.  It all depends on how long you want to play Hide and Seek.

Hide and Seek is a great game to play in SWTOR or any other MMO for that matter.  I am particularly fond of it since I wasn’t so great as it in real life as a kid.  The asthma kept giving me a way.  (Wheeze….Wheeze….I think Tim’s hiding behind the oak tree over there…)

SWTOR Sith Assasin PVP Tips

I’m having too much fun playing PvP as a Sith assassin.  (In fact, PvP is the only reason why I renewed my subscription for another month.)  After playing my fair share of warzones (and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much Huttball), I’d like to share what I’ve learned with all ten of my regular readers.  Perhaps they will spread the word to others looking to jump into PvP and get all stealthy assassiny:

  • You Are A Glass Cannon.  Yes, your DPS is awesome.  Scounderels want to be you.  Children look up to you.  Women want to date you.  But, your armor sucks. Bad.  You can click your heels together as many times as you want, but if you go toe to toe with someone on your same level, you will be respawning in no time flat.
  • Stick With a Group.  Since you are a glass cannon, it would be wise to stick close to another person (preferably a tank), so that you can help them.  In Huttball, you should be sticking close to the ball handler anyway so that you can help clear a path for them.
  • Stick to the Outside.  Stealth is going to be your greatest advantage.  In the chaos of the warzone, if you can’t stick close to someone, stealth and pick off someone.  This technique is particularly useful in the Voidstar where healers and smugglers/imperial agents like to setup cover away from the doors and blast people.
  • Players Forget About You.  Most players are too focused on their next kill to remember that there is a shadow in their midst.  One of my favorite things to do in the Novare Coast is to stealth at an enemy controlled turret if it becomes obvious that we are going to fail to take over control.  Often, the opposing team will leave thinking they have defeated everyone.  Once they are gone, I break stealth and take control of the turret.  This same technique is useful in the Voidstar as well.  Everyone is busy fighting each other, they don’t notice the assassin that just popped up at the door to plant a bomb.
  • Die Trying.  If you find yourself in a jam and it becomes, obvious you are going to die, go out in a blaze of glory.  Even if your opponent has significantly more health than you, use your abilities on them.  Slow them.  Stun them. Anything.  Even if you are going to die, any small thing you do may help your teammate take them down.
  • Get Your Demolisher Medal.  The demolisher medal is earned by striking someone for 2.5k damage in a single hit.  This may be difficult to do against other level 50′s, but should be a cinch against others.  Use an adrenal and/or a relic, sneak up behind someone and let them have it.  You should be able to get this medal each time you play a warzone.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Don’t Buy the 100% Speeder

Save some credits and pass by the 100% speeder.  You already have a vehicle.  Is it really worth the investment to get something that goes 10% faster?  Maybe if someone gives you one for free.  But you would be wise to spend those credits on something else….Legacy gear comes to mind.

Darth Hater has a nice primer on update 1.3.  He talks about what is included and what is not included (as of yet).

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Know Your Endgame Color Crystals

Dulfy has done it once again.  She has compiled a listing of all engame color crystals and how to obtain them.  If you haven’t visited Dulfy’s site yet, I highly recommend that you take the time and look at her SWTOR articles.  They are all very well done and very informative.

If I wasn’t working a real job, had a lawn to mow, kids to feed, were much less lazy and much more motivated, I would generate informative posts that were at least half as good.  Keep up the good work Dulfy!
