If you are just beginning to PvP as a low level character, you will want to stick close to two or three people during the PvP match. It is the only way you are going to have a chance at survival.
Let’s face it. Even if you had the best gear available for your character, you aren’t going to last long against someone who may be 10-20 levels higher than you. Your best strategy is to follow a couple of players and offer a supporting role. If you are a healer, healing is always welcome. If you are ranged, stand back a ways and open fire. If you are melee….maybe you can get a few good shots in before you die.
Even as a low level participant in a PvP match, it is a great way to earn XP and credits for your character. Even if you haven’t liked PvP in other MMOs, (/raisehand), I highly recommend that you give PvP in SWTOR a try, at least a few times.
