SWTOR Tip of the Day: Know Your Orange Belt and Bracer Farm Locations

As any level 50 player will tell you, orange gear is imperative to get in order to prepare your character for endgame raiding.  They will also tell you that both orange bracers and belts are difficult to come by as they are not obtainable by crafting or as a reward for completing a normal quest.

Dulfy has compiled an excellent list of ways to get both an orange belt and bracer.  You can try your luck using one of these methods, or you can hope someone puts in on a GTN kiosk near you.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Get an Orange Belt From the Starship Upgrades Vendor

If you are willing to part with 60 Fleet Commendations, you can obtain an orange belt from the Starship Upgrades vendor on the Fleet.  This belt only has two open slots though and requires Social I in order to equip.  If you meet the requirements, you can get one without having to search the galaxy far and wide for an orange belt.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Pass the Ball in Huttball

Those new to the Great Galactic Pastime known as Huttball may not realize that they can pass the ball.  When you play Huttball for the first time, you will get a “pass the Huttball” ability on your action bar.  If your action bar(s) are full, the ability is listed on the general tab of your skills menu.  If you are serious about rising to the top of the Huttball world (gaining fame, fortune, and an endless supply of commendations) it would be a very good idea to add this ability as a hotkey (key bind).

The pass ability is an AOE ability, which means that when you click on the ability, a circle will appear on the screen.  More the circle so that it encloses a team mate and then click again to actually throw the ball.  The teammate who was within the circle will catch the ball.

For those new to the sport, passing is not immediately intuitive.  Hopefully this will help you from being accosted by your teammates for not passing.

SWTOR Legacy System Overview

Dulfy’s Healing corner did a nice job previewing the Legacy System that is coming in update 1.2.

The article concentrates on the “Global Unlocks” section of the Legacy System, although the article does touch on the “Family Tree” section and previews a few features that will be implemented in update 1.3

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Save Your Daily Commendations Until Patch 1.2

Unless you’ve been living under an asteroid, you know that patch 1.2 is going to bring a lot of changes to SWTOR.  One of the many changes is the addition of new loot that can be purchased by using the daily commendations that are earned on Ilum and Belsavis.

Reports from the 1.2 patch on the test server indicated that the really good gear is going to cost 200 commendations (just like the current good gear) from the Mission Support Vendor.  So, if you are a relatively new level 50, you may want to save your daily commendations until patch 1.2 is live.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Understand Need vs Greed

New players to SWTOR (or any MMO for that matter) may not fully understand the difference in “Need” vs “Greed” when it comes to looting a unique item in a group.  It’s important to fully understand this system, in order to keep the members of your group happy.  Many people instantly try to take every piece of loot that they can.  While there is nothing wrong with that, at times it is better to try to let others have a piece of gear that you have no use for (outside of trying to sell for some credits).  You would be surprised at how quickly a group member can turn on you for rolling on their “Epic Blaster of Awesomeness” when you are  playing a Jedi.

Here is how the group loot system works (taken straight from the game manual):

When the group picks up a unique item, by default, all members have the opportunity to roll for the item. When an item is put up for a roll, a window appears displaying the item. A green meter counts down how much time you have to roll for the item. Select NEED or GREED to roll for the item, and a random number is generated for every group member. The player with the highest number is awarded the item. If you want a good chance at securing the item, select NEED. Otherwise, choose GREED if you want to give the other members a better chance at obtaining the item.

So, if you really NEED the item, click Need.  If you would like a chance to win the item, but absolutely don’t have to have it, select Greed.  There is also a third choice not listed in the game manual.  If you don’t want to roll against the item at all, you can close the roll box.  That way, you will be assured that you will not have a chance of winning the roll on the item.

Hope Trailer Fan Film

A bunch of highly talented French SWTOR fans recreated the “Hope” trailer in live action.  They did an outstanding job!  Take a look here.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Throw Players Off of the Bridge in the Void Star Warzone

What’s this?  A PvP tip? On BloggingTOR?  Yes!  Run over to your window and check for airborne swine because it is true: there is a PvP tip today!

In the Void Star warzone, after the first set of doors has been blown down and the attackers must cross the bridge to advance to the second set of doors, it is very easy to throw players off the bridge using abilities that knockback (Overload for example).  So, with some timing and a bit of luck you will be able to send a player or two to their unpleasant demise.

SWTOR Tip of the Day: Press Z to Show Your Weapon

Want to show off your new light saber color or draw your pistol in a menacing way?  All you need to do is hit the Z button.  This will draw whatever weapon you have equipped.  Pressing Z again will holster it.
